DOGS OF THE WORLD is in the Astana Times!
Over a year ago, a Kazakh diplomat by the name of Janibek Bektemissov tagged me on his Kazakh Tazy photos over on Twitter/X, though tbh, I didn't know at the time that he was a Kazakh diplomat. I thought that Janibek was a Tazy breeder or show handler, and I assumed that he tagged me because it was quite obvious that I was interested in dog breeds.
At the time, I was deeply immersed in writing and illustrating my Dogs of the World book, and I made sure that the Kazakh Tazy was included.
A couple of weeks ago, just as I was about to deactivate my Twitter account, I saw that Janibek had tweeted me another Tazy photo and this time I proudly tweeted back this above photo of my book, a spread showing the Kazakh Tazy and other Central Asian dogs.
Before you knew it, Janibek had introduced me to a journalist for the Astana Times, and also to a cultural affairs person at the Kazakh Embassy in Washington, DC!
This is such a surprising honor. Dogs of the World will be published on April 15th and if you are a journalist, please contact Ten Speed Press or Penguin Books for an early review copy!
