THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has ordered drawings of your pets! A total of $630 has been donated to American Boston Terrier Rescue. This is 25% of received commissions for August, September & October 2009.

Please visit the ABTR website - there are many Special Needs boston terriers that need your help and I know their vet bills are HUGE. You can also contribute by purchasing goodies from the ABTR Cafepress store.

As of next month, I will be again, sending donations to Boston Buddies. Don’t forget to let me know the rescue organization of your choice when commissioning a portrait of your doggies.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do you draw cats, birds, fish, and other animals?
YES! At the same prices.

Do you draw people?
NO, sorry. For this Doggie Drawings project, I draw pets only. The illustrations of PEOPLE that you may have seen on my flickr account are most probably “gifts” or drawings that I did for fun. Having said this … if you really really must have a portrait of yourself with your pet, I will consider the request but note that I may be drawing in a different style and will charge different prices. This artwork would be separate from the Doggie Drawings fundraiser project.

You have drawn my dogs - I would like to add some items/decorations to the drawing to make it Holiday-themed. Will you do this?
YES! If I am reusing the drawings that I have already done without creating new portrait poses, I can add extra elements and will charge a tiny fee.

Example: CHUBBY & MYNNE

Thanks again for your support!

Boogie with the big pink tongue is my dog; Butch and Emma are Christa’s dogs.

And yes, little Miss Emma has to wear a diaper because she is incontinent after her horrible past life in a puppy mill that damaged her uterus and girl parts. (This was before she was rescued by Boston Buddies and adopted by Christa)

I did these drawings for fun, just because I know and love these pups. However I have also decided to donate one print each of BOOGIE and BUTCH to the Boston Tea Party Silent Auction on September 12th. These are 8.5 x 11, printed on canvas paper and signed. A set of these Boogie postcards will also be up for auction.

Hope to see you at the party!

posted on 19.08.09 Justice for BANDIT

This is so unbelievably sad and shocking.

On July 12th, a 5 year old boston terrier - BANDIT (who happens to look like my Boogie with his one blue eye) was found mutilated and murdered on the grounds of Rex Putnam High School, in Milwaukie, Oregon. Bandit had been stolen from his family’s yard, stabbed, skinned and hung on a tree.

READ THE NEWS STORY HERE

The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this horrible crime.

On September 19th, there will be a memorial for Bandit where Bandit was murdered. 100’s of BT/dog lovers will be present. Proceeds from raffles and gift donations will go to a Bandit Memorial as well as to rescue efforts for Bostons in Portland.

This drawing is my donation to the Bandit Memorial:

Stay tuned. I will post info soon on where/how to purchase this poster of Bandit.

*UPDATE*

Erica and Jen from All-Mighty Clothing will be printing a LIMITED EDITION of 11 x 17’ posters! These will be available for purchase - $20 each - from the Oregon Humane Society at the Bandit Memorial event.

The FBVillage is very fortunate to have caught the eye of some artists of formidable talent, who have shown their support either directly through the donation of their work, or indirectly through the donation of moneys raised by the sale of their work. We are so very appreciative of the generosity and compassion of these artists, not just on behalf of our rescue dogs but for other rescues as well, and we are delighted to be able to showcase them in our newest section - Art with a Heart!

The first of our featured artists is a marvelous artist/animator from Los Angeles, California…

My name is Lili Chin. I work as an animation artist and producer, and I am also mother to Boogie, a six-year old tennis ball obsessed Boston Terrier with a blue eye, who often gets mistaken for a French Bulldog on account of his big head.

My Doggie Drawings fundraiser project started in mid 2008. A year earlier, I was a new foster mom for Boston Buddies rescue.

My first foster - Jazzy - was a 13 year old ‘owner surrender’: She was deaf from untreated ear infections, had palsy, seizures and a brain tumor. For 9 months, nobody wanted her except me, and eventually Jazzy passed away from stomach cancer. Despite all these issues, she was an amazing dog with a memorable personality and she was a huge inspiration for my dog drawings. My second foster was another owner surrender. Rocky was a sweet blind 9 year old boy who also suffered seizures and passed away from a brain-related infection.

chin02

My brief fostering experience endeared me to Boston Terriers as a breed, broke my heart, and opened my eyes to how insanely expensive it is to help sick and homeless dogs; and how many more dogs need help. If not for the generosity of rescue groups like Boston Buddies and their supporters, I cannot imagine how Seniors and Special Needs like Jazzy and Rocky would even get a second chance….

I was receiving requests from random people to draw their dogs, so I came up with the idea to do these in exchange for donations to Boston Buddies. In the first couple of months, the response was overwhelmingly positive. As I received even more requests for drawings, more positive feedback and referrals, I was encouraged to keep doing this as side project and fundraiser for more rescue groups including American Boston Terrier Rescue (TX) and French Bulldog Village (MA).

You can find out more about Lili Chin’s drawings at www.doggiedrawings.net. She keeps her prices low because she wants to be accessible to as many dog-lovers as possible!

A really nice testimonial from Kristin:

“Lili is PAWSOME! She is absolutely wonderful, her attention to detail really captures the essence of each dog she draws. I’ve given her drawings as gifts, had them made into t-shirts, notecards, mugs, and even tennis shoes! Everyone who sees her drawings instantly becomes a HUGE fan! Thanks Lili!”

Welcome to my DOGGIE DRAWINGS blog! This is where I share all my drawings and post updates on my schedule and donation totals made to rescue.

This DOGGIE DRAWINGS project began in April 2008 as a fundraiser for Boston Buddies - a non-profit Boston terrier rescue organization in Southern California. I have been a foster mom for Boston Buddies and this is also where I adopted my Boogie from.

So far, the response has been fantastic and we have donated thousands of dollars towards helping needy dogs. (See the total on the right side of this blog)

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has commissioned pet drawings and helped spread the word. I wish to keep doing this for as long as possible.

Please read on for information on how to commission a custom portrait of your dog(s). Some information has been updated for 2010 - Please refer to PRICES, PAYMENT and FAQ.

I work from photos so please email me a link to your favorite photos if they are in an online gallery (eg, Flickr, photobucket, Picasa, box.net. etc.) or attach your favorite photos in an email with a short description of your dog’s personality.

I prefer photos that include different angles, show at least one good facial close-up, at least one good full body pose with no clothing on so that I can see his/her unique body markings clearly, and accurate colors in natural lighting.

If you would like me to include a specific toy or a collar or costume, please let me know in advance and include reference photos for these items.

*If you have special requests for the drawing (extra props, background, different size etc.) please refer to the FAQ SECTION and let me know in advance. Some extras may cost more.

I refer to your photos to create a digital drawing.

I use a combination of Macromedia Flash and Adobe Photoshop, drawing directly onto my computer screen using a Wacom Cintiq pen and tablet.

Before I finish the drawing, I will email you a PREVIEW so that if you need to have certain things changed, this is a good time to let me know. :)

1. One 8.5 x 11” print, signed by Yours Truly. This is printed on Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Matte paper, and sent by USPS First Class mail.
