I have just sent a donation of $380 to Boston Buddies for Jack, a little boston terrier who needs surgery for his luxating patellas.

This is a percentage of commissions received in late December 2009 and January 2010. (I will also be sending donations to a few other rescues)

Jack’s surgery costs $2000. If you can help, please do!

The FBVillage is very fortunate to have caught the eye of some artists of formidable talent, who have shown their support either directly through the donation of their work, or indirectly through the donation of moneys raised by the sale of their work. We are so very appreciative of the generosity and compassion of these artists, not just on behalf of our rescue dogs but for other rescues as well, and we are delighted to be able to showcase them in our newest section - Art with a Heart!

The first of our featured artists is a marvelous artist/animator from Los Angeles, California…

My name is Lili Chin. I work as an animation artist and producer, and I am also mother to Boogie, a six-year old tennis ball obsessed Boston Terrier with a blue eye, who often gets mistaken for a French Bulldog on account of his big head.

My Doggie Drawings fundraiser project started in mid 2008. A year earlier, I was a new foster mom for Boston Buddies rescue.

My first foster - Jazzy - was a 13 year old ‘owner surrender’: She was deaf from untreated ear infections, had palsy, seizures and a brain tumor. For 9 months, nobody wanted her except me, and eventually Jazzy passed away from stomach cancer. Despite all these issues, she was an amazing dog with a memorable personality and she was a huge inspiration for my dog drawings. My second foster was another owner surrender. Rocky was a sweet blind 9 year old boy who also suffered seizures and passed away from a brain-related infection.

My brief fostering experience endeared me to Boston Terriers as a breed, broke my heart, and opened my eyes to how insanely expensive it is to help sick and homeless dogs; and how many more dogs need help. If not for the generosity of rescue groups like Boston Buddies and their supporters, I cannot imagine how Seniors and Special Needs like Jazzy and Rocky would even get a second chance….

I was receiving requests from random people to draw their dogs, so I came up with the idea to do these in exchange for donations to Boston Buddies. In the first couple of months, the response was overwhelmingly positive. As I received even more requests for drawings, more positive feedback and referrals, I was encouraged to keep doing this as side project and fundraiser for more rescue groups including American Boston Terrier Rescue (TX) and French Bulldog Village (MA).

You can find out more about Lili Chin’s drawings at www.doggiedrawings.net. She keeps her prices low because she wants to be accessible to as many dog-lovers as possible!

A really nice testimonial from Kristin:

“Lili is PAWSOME! She is absolutely wonderful, her attention to detail really captures the essence of each dog she draws. I’ve given her drawings as gifts, had them made into t-shirts, notecards, mugs, and even tennis shoes! Everyone who sees her drawings instantly becomes a HUGE fan! Thanks Lili!”

posted on 31.05.09 Donations update & Fundraiser for ABTR

Thank you for your continued support and for telling your friends about my work. I really appreciate it. Times are financially tough right now so I am extremely grateful to all my clients. This Doggie Drawings project is also a fundraiser, so you are also helping dogs in need and this is always a wonderful thing.

The last donation I made was at the end of February. This quarter, I am donating a total of $340 to Boston Buddies, which is 25% of all commissions received in the months of March, April and May 2009. THANK YOU!

I want to introduce you all to American Boston Terrier Rescue (ABTR) which is based in Texas. I recently designed for Wanda at ABTR, a new logo for their website.

Links: http://americanbostonterrierrescue.org/ (under construction) OR http://www.abtr.net

This next quarter, I will be adding ABTR to the list of rescue groups that I make donations to.

Tell me if this page about Nicky doesn’t move you. Please help ABTR help poor Nicky.

WARNING - VERY DISTURBING GRAPHIC IMAGES OF ABUSE:

posted on 25.07.08 Update: July-August 2008

Thank you to everyone for your generous donations and patience as I work my way through a growing list of doggies to draw. Thank you especially to those of you who are spreading the word about my fundraiser project on forums and blogs - I really really appreciate it!

Here is some nice feedback from Kat (mother to Dobby the Frenchie, and Cookie the BT, as pictured below)-

“Lili is super nice, and very quick with her work, you’ll be
amazed. She always captures the expressions & personalities of the
dogs SO perfectly! I’ve attached the drawing she did for Cookie &
Dobby, as well as some of their pictures that inspired the drawing.
It’s now framed up on our wall and makes us smile everytime we look at it. :)”

I also received some lovely feedback from Chris, (Angel’s mom) on the WOOF forum. Below is a photo of my framed drawing of her doggies, which is so cool to see!

… And from Melissa:

“Here is a picture of my tattoo, inspired by your fabulous drawing of Duke and Daisy.  It’s pretty fresh, I’ll send you a better picture once it is healed up.”

These photos make me smile. :)

DONATIONS UPDATE

I recently sent off a $800 check to BostonBuddies for the care of Hope, a Special Needs girl whom you can read about HERE. I will continue to send checks to BostonBuddies at the end of each month on your behalf. In only 3 months, we have raised approximately $3000 in donations - which blows my mind! I feel so good about this!

Some of you have asked: How long will this fundraiser project go on for?

Ideally, I would like to keep doing these drawings for as long as there is interest in them.

What started off as a “side hobby-project” has now become something that I do every day and night so… a slight change of plans… From August 2008 onwards, I will be donating 20 -50% of proceeds (instead of 80%) to BostonBuddies Rescue.

I also want to add that if you prefer me to donate to a different pet rescue group or charity (e.g., French Bulldog Rescue, if you have Frenchies or a mixed-breed rescue…), I am open to this. Please let me know.

Thank you for your continued support in this fundraiser.

If you are going to be at the Boston Tea Party on Sept 20th, I look forward to meeting you and your dogs!
